Introducing MHC Project Director Tara Zuardo

Tara Zuardo will lead the Mountain Housing Council as its new Project Director, working alongside MHC partners to drive strategy and lead operations. She has worked in a number of environmental/animal protection nonprofits, as well as on a variety of housing-related legal issues, including foreclosure defense, eviction moratoriums, landlord-tenant matters, and more. Housing Unit Watch: MHC Launches New Tracker

By MHC’s latest housing count, there are more than 487 Units of Achievable Local Housing that have been recently completed or are on the horizon in the Tahoe Truckee region. MHC’s Housing Tracker Tool will provide quarterly metrics on the progress of housing projects and categorize the projects by status – completed, under construction, approved, pending, pre-approved, and on hold – as well as delineated by AMI.

HOUSING ACTION:

Truckee Council Meets Tuesday to Discuss Joerger Ranch Specific Plan Amendments

The Town Council will discuss staff’s recommended amendments at its upcoming meeting on February 9th at 5pm. Issues include potential revisions to workforce housing and inclusionary housing requirements. Read More.

Federal and State Bills Extend Eviction Moratorium

California Bill, SB 91, extends the eviction moratorium through June 30, 2021, and provides for rental assistance to eligible households making 80 percent of the Area Median Income (AMI). The bill also includes assistance to landlords providing compensation for rental arrears up to 80 percent. An Executive Order extended the Federal eviction moratorium through March 31, 2021. Truckee Moves Forward with ADU Incentive Package

On January 26th, the Truckee Town Council unanimously approved an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) incentive package aimed at accelerating both the production of new accessory dwelling units, as well as bringing unpermitted units into compliance. ADUs are gaining traction at both the state and local level as a promising way to address housing needs within existing neighborhoods. Read More.

TRPA’s Tahoe Living Working Group Will Embark on Near-Term Housing Policy

The Tahoe Living Working Group will begin in-depth policy development of near-term housing actions at its meeting on Wednesday, February 10, from 1:00 – 4:00 pm. The two policy areas to be developed include incentivizing accessory dwelling units and revising TRPA’s density regulations. The Public is invited to attend and participate.
